| This is another post to combat all the complaining. I personally think that the fest has been awesome and getting better for years now. I have lots of fond memories and good times to look back on. What I have been reading is a lot of whining whining whining !! it is noisy, i'm gonna hit you with my seatpost !! waaaah !!
So here is a post that I hope people will respond to !! Do you have any awesome memories of the fest in the past ? Anything that was GOOD ?!?! Lets post up some good stories and shut down the naysayers !!
Here are a few for you to get started with :
I remember the first year I entered the mudbog and had my big old DH rig, what they were then anyway, and 3" tires on it. Thought this will be awesome and the tires packed up solid in three feet. My buddy rocked like 2.1's, rode right through it. That was awesome ! We were covered in mud :D
I remember my buddy demo'd a rocky mountain. they said bring it back in a couple hours, he went to jiminy and beat it up all day long. instead of returning it, he went back with it, and said i'll give you $X right now for this bike, and went home with it !
I remember someone brought a bunch of teeter totters and jumps to the camp area and we were riding on those for a while, which was wicked fun ! Then my buddy rode off the side of one and dumped it, and it was so funny, and we were all laughing. He was fine ;D
I remember playing this game on tequilla hill where we spun a wheel and drank out of unmarked bottles, covered in socks. That was great !!
I remember running into a group of people playing jarts. I used to love that game !! It was wicked fun to play that again !!
I remember goin to Jiminy and it was pouring pouring rain. We rode anyways, and we were all soaked to the bone !! It was soooo fun ! we were all of us covered in mud and smiling ear to ear !! The a couple years later Brian and Simon showed up and showed us how to ride all that properly in the mud ! That was awesome too.
I remember meeting Simon and Brian and thinking these guys are going to run us ragged. But they were totally awesome and took their time, had us do drills, rode behind you to watch, really awesome !
I remember the year we got those harpoon glasses and refills were like a couple dollars, and they had blueberry beer, which was freakin delicious !!
I remember the old band we used to have every year that was awesome, we really liked them !
I remember we were hanging out and freakin Wade Simmons was rockin this log stunt. Freakin Wade Simmons !! He signed a poster for my friend. I thought he was gonna cry he was so excited.
I love when i wakeup and they have breakfast in the main area, that breakfast is freakin delicious !!
I remember last year they setup this whole solar powered tour de france. Oh man was that cool !! This year's tour is awesome !! Who will win, i dunno !!
There you go. That should start you off. Lets hear some positive stories !!
I can tell you the stories I bring home this year will have Streb, Carter, and Lopes in them. Oh man, that is so cool !!
:D PD |

I'd agree that last year was the best one I can remember having gone the last 5 years. The new site was great, vendor area was diverse, and while the xc trails were fairly new they allowed me to get some work in before I went downhilling. The improvements I'd like to see this year are: Better organization of camping areas, last year than didn't put up yellow tape until after people started showing up so some had to move after getting setup. More quiet hours patrolling by the festival staff. Police are not necessary unless a crime has been committed. Better trail marking with the ability to identify where you are on the printed trail map. |

| So many years, so many memories. I've been to 9 so far, including 1 year up in Randolph, VT. Some of my best memories include: Riding to the top of Jiminy then less than ¼ of the way down, both hydraulic lines for my brakes went, very funny when I think back on it, at the time, well... One of the early years of the disco tent and the start of dancing on the table – there was a picture of our group on the DT web site for years from that night. Last years intermediate ‘Go Long’ ride when we had to call back to the fest to get Ed to come get 2 of us due a rider’s rear hub seizing – near the entrance to balance rock. Tequila Hill (Flats), need I say more – remember the girl who showed up in heels and a long dress one year? The ‘big kids’ ride I lead when I kept getting dropped on the down hills – the big kids were 14 – 16 yr old boys – I beat them on all the climbs though. The Mud Hens – if you go to their MySpace page, there is a picture with from the fest, too bad they broke up. The little kids ride and teaching 2 girls around 9 or 10 how to ride over a small rock wall. I think we spent almost a ½ hr there as they both wanted to clean it. I can wait for tomorrow! I’ll see you all there. |
